Got a few minutes? It's long, but if you wonder who we are, grab a cup of whatever settles you in and read on.
I grew up learning how to survive in the back country when my dad would drag me through the mountains each summer weekend. Whether it was hunting, horseback riding or just hiking for the exercise, we covered many miles together. We slept on the ground under the stars listening to the crickets chirp, and on occasion, a mountain lion scream. At the age of 14, I preferred the crickets. Now I have an appreciation for both. Having spent every weekend of my summer vacation riding horseback or hiking the trails of the Utah mountains, I learned a great appreciation for them. Spending the winter months growing up in California suburbs taught me to never take them for granted. It wasn't until I had two daughters that began to also love spending time in the mountains as well that I realized my mistake. I had taught them to love nature, but spending time out there alone can be dangerous. It was this realization that jolted me into what is now the foundation for Go For It Outdoors. Though I understand the drive they have to be outdoors and explore, as a mother, I am made to worry. I began learning everything I could about personal protection, so I could train my girls to protect themselves. At the same time, it was so rewarding to watch them learn outdoor skills and witness their love of the outdoors grow as they did. With years of listening to people telling me things like "you should be an outfitter", "can you teach me to hunt", " I wish I could do the things you do", and on and on, I decided that maybe I would take that advise and share what I have learned with those that want to learn as well.

Bottom line, Go For It Outdoors was developed with women's interests in outdoor sports in mind. We have a strong passion for all things outdoors and have spent our lives enjoying the beauty and sport this scenic country offers. Utah is home to some of the best outdoor sporting opportunities in the West and we are proud to call it home. We set out on a mission many years ago to help educate those wanting to learn more about the outdoors. Since then, our dynamic has expanded as well as our knowledge of the outdoors. Our personal playgrounds include various properties around the state where we can go and instruct students in the heart of the Utah mountains. Whether you do not have the time or the means to travel far, or whether you need to get away from reality where the phone, internet and cable service is..... out of service, we've got you covered. By holding these tutorial classes in the environment they will be used, students are able to get hands on experience in things that might sound simple to some, but may be intimidating to others. We want you to feel comfortable in our atmosphere and will teach simple tricks of the trades that will make life easier in the mountains. From building fires and pitching a tent, to identifying tracks or signs of various wildlife and catching dinner on a fishing line, we aim to help you be more confident outdoors.
Along with the basics of outdoor instruction, we will broaden your horizons with new skills and hobbies that you can enjoy for years to come. Learn the difference between long and compound bows, and what they are used for. Learn to shoot them comfortably and confidently. Take a few hours to become comfortable with shooting firearms and general safety of handling, cleaning, and storing them. There's nothing quite like learning to tie a fly and then catching a fish with it. Spend the weekend backpacking the high country photographing the scenery and wildlife and taking in the fresh air. Do you want to learn to be a hunter but have no idea where to start? We can help.
Though we are focused on empowering women in the outdoors, that doesn't mean we will not teach these same skills to everyone. We are not biased. Our courses are taught by certified women instructors with a passion for the outdoors and we welcome anyone willing to take the time to learn what we are teaching. By having only women instructors, we feel there will be less intimidation that sometimes comes with having instructors of the opposite sex. (Don't get me wrong, I have taken courses from and know many, many GREAT male instructors, but I also know many women who won't take a course simply because it is taught by a male who intimidates them. That's where we come in.) We focus on making learning fun and relaxing. We are chuck full of patience, and are here to make your time with us memorable, enjoyable, and successful.
We also understand that some ladies will be limited because they want to bring their significant other along, and for those cases, we have options.
